During its plenary session on Thursday 15th March, the European Parliament endorsed the Musotto Report on the problems of the islands within the framework of the regional policy , and the proposals to support their economic and social development.

This report proposes that the European Commission authorizes state aid to the insular areas where energy costs, compromise the competitiveness of the local communities. Moreover, the report points out that it is necessary to better take into account the needs and specificities of these areas.

Eventually, the report underlines the impact of migratory flows in the Mediterranean islands.
