The European Commission proposed a long-term environmental strategy for cleaning up and protecting the Mediterranean Sea. This unique ecosystem is deteriorating as environmental pressures such as pollution and construction increase. The major oil spill that occurred during the recent conflict in Lebanon has dramatically highlighted the vulnerability of the region’s environment. The Mediterranean’s decline threatens the health of the 143 million people living on its shores as well as the long-term development of key economic sectors that depend on the sea, such as fishing and tourism.

The President of the European Commission, José Barrosso, the President of the European Parliament, Joseo Borrell, the President of the Committee of the Regions, Michel Delebarre, the Director of DG Relex, Eneko Landaburu, and the Director of the DG Regio, Graham Medows, will receive a delegation of Arco Latino, led by its President André Vezinhet, on the 18th and 19th July in Brussels.

Arco Latino, represented by Jean Bombin (member of the Conseil Général du Var and vice-president of Arco Latino), will take part in the IV Thematic Structured Dialogue of Territorial Associations on 20 June 2006.

Mr Vezinhet, President of Arco Latino, was joined by Celestino Corbacho (President of Diputació de Barcelona and Vice-president of Arco Latino), Antonio Saitta (President of Provincia di Torino and President of the Arco Latino Working Group for Equal Opportunities) and Jean Bombin (Councillor of Conseil Général du Var and Vice-president of Arco Latino).

The European Commissioner for Regional Policy, Danuta Hübner, will receive a delegation of Arco Latino, led by its President André Vezinhet, on 10 May in Brussels.

Mr Vezinhet will be joined by Celestino Corbacho (Vice-president of Arco Latino and President of Diputació de Barcelona), Antonio Saitta (President of the Arco Latino Working Group for Equal Opportunities and President of Provincia di Torino) and Jean Bombin (Vice-president of Arco Latino and Councillor of Conseil Général du Var).

“Vamos a transmitir de inmediato a todos los grupos políticos de la Diputación de Valencia la propuesta de incorporación al Arco Latino porque tenemos la voluntad inequívoca de participar en los foros europeos para defender los intereses valencianos en Bruselas”, ha manifestado el presidente de la Diputación de Valencia - Fernando Giner Giner - tras la reunión mantenida con el senador francés y presidente del Arco Latino, André Vezinhet.
