Objectives
Arco Latino passed from having a weak representation at European political level to be recognized an area of community development. This Euro-territory is recognized within the guidelines established by the European Spatial Development Perspective (ESDP) as a “dynamic area of integration in the world economy???.
One of Arco Latino´s aims is to establish a space of political cooperation between second-level administrations; to pronounce coherent and common interests within a Mediterranean area at present highly fragmented; to avoid that Europe ignores the South and to ensure the inclusion of the Mediterranean and local standpoint into policy making.
Arco Latino represents a platform for the participating administrations to strengthen its capacities and to internationalize its action and strategies in favour of some previously defined common objectives.
Besides, Arco Latino members can define joint initiatives (communication, political and pilot projects) that are necessary for the development of this Euro-territory and that have a major impact.
Arco Latino´s main objectives are:
- Define an integrated development and planning strategy for the Arco Latino area, including and mobilizing the socioeconomic actors from the bottom to the top
- Establish a regular, dynamic and flexible agreement focused on the most important fields of regional development;
- Cooperate in common projects and initiatives;
- Defend the regional interests and needs in front of the EC and national institutions;
- Create a space of cooperation with the South Mediterranean countries.
